Amazon said this week that it is increasing the hourly pay for its warehousing and delivery staff.
According to Amazon, the typical beginning wage for front-line staff in the United States will increase to more than $19 per hour in October from $18 per hour.
Over the next year, Amazon will spend almost $1 billion on wage increases as it tries to recruit and keep workers in an extremely competitive labor market.
Between Amazon and its front-line employees, notably during the Covid-19 outbreak, tensions have been rising.
Workers have demanded pay raises, extra paid vacation days, and modifications to the productivity standards.
